Carrier Strike Group Twelve Commanding Officer

Nicholas Roach

Captain

Background

CAPT N. Roach, from the United Kingdom, has always harboured a profound interest in aviation and the military. With family members serving in the Royal Marines, his passion for military life was sparked at a young age. An avid gamer, he enjoys the alternate realities and endless possibilities that video games offer.

Military Simulation Involvement

CAPT N. Roach began his Arma journey in 2010, initially playing Arma 2 before transitioning to Arma 3. Over the years, he has participated in various life servers and milsim units, holding senior leadership roles and even owning several life servers. Seeking a balanced environment, he joined NSWC, where he found a community that aligned with his vision. Discontent with overly strict or overly relaxed servers, he sought to create a well-rounded, immersive experience that respected members' real-life commitments.

At NSWC, CAPT N. Roach played a pivotal role in simplifying the structure, increasing difficulty for greater immersion, and fostering a strong community spirit. His efforts helped stabilise the unit, leading to its reformation as CSG 12, which focuses on realism and community.

Professional Experience

CAPT N. Roach leverages his real-world skills in evaluating people and understanding behaviours to select the right individuals for leadership roles. His keen insights have been instrumental in developing training documents, campaigns, and missions, as well as handpicking and nurturing future leaders. His expertise has enabled CSG 12 to thrive for over seven years, a testament to his leadership and dedication.

Contributions to CSG 12

CAPT N. Roach has been a cornerstone of CSG 12, contributing to the development of campaigns, training bases, weekly missions, and vehicle textures. His strategic vision and commitment to excellence have driven the unit's success, even during challenging times. From disastrous operations with fewer than ten participants to chaotic missions with over forty, his leadership has been unwavering.

His favourite campaign, Operation Able Sentry, set in the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan, stands out as a testament to his dedication. Establishing LPOP Intervention, the highest military installation in Afghanistan, accessible only by hike or helicopter rope insertion, was a highlight of this gruelling yet rewarding campaign.

Recognition and Awards

CAPT N. Roach's exceptional service and leadership have earned him numerous awards, including:

  • Navy Distinguished Service Medal

  • Navy and Marine Corps Medal

  • Meritorious Service Medal

  • Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal

  • Legion of Merit

These accolades reflect his significant contributions and unwavering commitment to CSG 12's success.

Future Goals

CAPT N. Roach aspires to grow the unit back to 30-35 regular members, fostering stable community development and recapturing the unit's best moments. He is passionate about preserving the unit's history, ensuring that every member's contributions are remembered and celebrated.

Personal Insights

CAPT N. Roach enjoys reflecting on photos and videos of the unit, showcasing the key players who have shaped CSG 12. He believes that recognising service and commitment is crucial for inspiring newer members and maintaining the unit's legacy.

A memorable quote from SgtMaj D. Nash encapsulates his leadership: "You got two daddies, Roach and Nash," spoken in his Texan accent in front of the unit.
