Background

CDR Callum McGregor, originally from the United Kingdom, has been an integral part of CSG 12 since his enlistment on 14 November 2021. His rapid rise through the ranks and dedication to the unit has made him a key figure in CSG 12's leadership.



Enlistment and Promotion Timeline:

  • 14 November 2021 - Enlistment/Assignment to 2nd Battalion, 8th MarinesMcGregor joined CSG 12 with a strong passion for military simulation and immediately demonstrated his potential.

  • 11 December 2021 - Promoted to Private First Class (PFC)McGregor's early dedication and teamwork during basic training earned him his first promotion.

  • 8 January 2022 - Promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl)Successfully led his fireteam during a critical operation, showing exceptional leadership and tactical skills.

  • 22 January 2022 - Promoted to Sergeant (Sgt)Impressively passed a rigorous three-hour promotion board, highlighting his knowledge and commitment.

  • 21 May 2022 - Promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt)Played a key role in a major campaign, leading multiple successful missions in high-stress environments.

  • 11 December 2022 - Promoted to Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt)His strategic planning and leadership during the challenging Operation Able Sentry in Afghanistan were pivotal.

  • 22 July 2023 - Promoted to Command Master Chief Petty Officer (CMDCM)/Assignment to CSG 12 HQElevated to CSG 12 HQ due to his exceptional service record and ability to mentor junior officers.

  • 5 August 2024 - Promoted to Commander (CDR)Took on the role of Executive Officer, recognised for his comprehensive understanding of military operations and leadership.

Contributions and Leadership

CDR McGregor joined CSG 12 alongside his friend Rubicon, initially serving in the same fireteam. Guided by his first Fire Team Leader, North, and mentored by SgtMaj Nash, he quickly developed his skills in squad leadership. Despite early challenges, such as a rigorous Sergeant’s promotion board, CDR McGregor demonstrated resilience and commitment, eventually earning the role of Executive Officer (XO).


His contributions to the unit are multifaceted, including the development of unique vehicle textures and customised aircraft and uniforms, which have given CSG 12 a distinct identity in the Arma 3 community. His leadership extends to training and mentoring new members, ensuring the unit maintains high standards of professionalism and camaraderie.


Professional Development

CDR McGregor’s journey is marked by his ability to persevere and adapt. His strategic thinking and dedication have earned him numerous commendations and the respect of his peers. His favourite campaign was the gruelling Operation Able Sentry, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the highest military installation in Afghanistan, LPOP Intervention.

CDR McGregor believes in the importance of resilience and perseverance. He advises that success is rarely achieved on a smooth path, but through persistence, any goal is attainable. His future aspirations include continuing to support CSG 12’s growth and maintaining the balance between serious, immersive operations and a strong community spirit.
